2012 Winner: Distinguished Women in Science Award
The South African Women in Science Awards (WISA) was presented in Centurion on 24 August 2012. These awards reward special achievements by women in science and research. The former South African Minister of Science and Technology, Naledi Pandor acknowledged in her speech the achievements of selected researchers. In connection with the German-South African Year of Science 2012/2013, there was a German participation in the award ceremony this year. Dr. Horst Freitag, the German Ambassador to South Africa, handed over some of the prices. The German researcher Dr. Britta Thege from Kiel University participated with a speech about the importance of the Women in Science Award.
